Every designer knows that wall treatment makes a BIG difference in the feel of a space. Instead of leaving your walls apartment yellow, designer Shannon Tate shows us why wallpaper can make a space that is to-die-for.
Back in the olden days, getting pattern up on your wall was either really expensive OR really time consuming. Wall tapestries were only for royalty and the rich, taking months or YEARS to hand sew and install. Pattern on walls was done either as custom hand-painted murals, block-printing, or stenciling. Again, ridiculously time consuming and requiring a very skilled artist.
Then in 1785, Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf changed the design world as we know it by inventing the wallpaper printer. (Thanks Chris!) In the last few years, wallpaper has only become more and more accessible. We have traditional wallpaper, companies where we can easily design and print our own, and even removable wallpaper sources for renters and the design-fickle alike.
I’ve heard it said that, “what you have on your walls, makes your house a home,” and I believe that wholeheartedly. Without wall décor, your home feels unfinished and unspecific to you. Wallpaper is a fun way to express yourself and bring your personality into the home. So choose boldly, softly, wisely, colorfully, neutrally, playfully….whatever your flavor. And you can pretend you’re one of those olden days royals.
Take a look at some of our best wallpaper projects for inspiration.

TRIBAL PRINT
This tribal wallpaper by Osbourne & Little for the NYC Bond Street offices by designer Maryana Grinshpun shows they think outside of the box. They are current, young, and hip. Hopefully with so much pattern in their conference room, the employees can stay focused.

PEOPLE PLEASER
This fun “People-paper” from Walnut Wallpaper, chosen by Homepolish’s Katherine Carter, seems very fitting for the storytellers at Campanario Entertainment offices in LA. Now our only questions is… Where’s Waldo?

BRIGHT AND LIGHT
This beautiful, whimsical wallpaper from Hygge & West is perfection in this Brooklyn home office by our Evan Schwartz. It’s playful, bright, and inspires you to rise above and think big. Just how one should feel in their home office.

AU NATUREL
In a San Francisco nursery by Homepolish’s Benedetta Amadi, this beautiful forest wallpaper is so serene, relaxing, yet playful. And it shows that even if you’re messing around with pattern in the middle of an urban metropolis, it can still feel completely natural.

ANCHORS AWAY
This gorgeous wallpaper at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, part of a Modernism Week pop-up designed by West Coast Creative Director Orlando Soria, is modern, artistic, bright and such a fitting Cali beach vibe. Yes, we know that Palm Springs is in the desert, but doesn’t this give you that surfer vibe? Totally tubular.
